Fourth staff spotlight of the week: Amber Stewart!

Hey guys! It's time for another staff spotlight! This week I interviewed Amber Stewart, she has been working at Mini Melanie for three months. She is from Abilene, Texas and went to Culinary Institute of America.

RM: How did you get into baking and what was your first memory of baking?

I've been baking since I was a kid, I always loved it! I don't have a specific first memory but I do remember baking chocolate chip cookies with my mom and sister. My mom used to measure out all the ingredients and then hand it to me or my sister and we would pour it in. Then we would bake it all together and it was just so fun to do this with them.

RM: What are the differences between the desserts here in New York and in Texas where you used to live?

There is a big difference with the desserts. I feel that in Texas you get more home-styled desserts like homemade. Almost like your grandma made it! But here in New York, the desserts are usually much more gourmet and elegant.

RM: Where did you work before Mini Melanie?

I first started off with getting a finance degree but then I decided I wanted to go to culinary school. I worked at a pizza place called Papa Murphys as I was saving up for school. I went to culinary school and then came to work here at Mini Melanie.

RM:  What is your favorite thing on the Mini Melanie menu and why?

So many things are amazing on the menu- seriously, but my favorite thing has to be the salted caramel brownie. First of all it’s caramel and brownie together so how can that not be good, but it's the salty sweet combination that just makes it my favorite.

RM:  What is the project you’re most proud of making at Mini Melanie?

I made these cookies last week for a baby shower and I'm so happy with the way they turned out! The cursive writing was something new for me to do at Mini Melanie but I practiced and was able to write with cursive on the cookies! They were also pink which is my favorite color and I think they were just simple and pretty.

RM: What is your favorite thing about working at Mini Melanie?

The people for sure. Everyone here is so fun and nice, it’s just a fun place to come and work at!

Thanks for returning and reading the fourth staff spotlight of the week. Come back next week to see who will be spotlighted next!
